Hiking Maja e Gjeravicës is more than just ticking off a peak — it’s a reminder of the natural beauty and spiritual calm Kosovo has to offer.

Standing at 2,656 meters, Maja e Gjeravicës (Mount Gjeravica) is the highest peak in Kosovo and a highlight for serious hikers. Located near the village of Junik, this mountain lies in the Bjeshkët e Nemuna range, also known as the Accursed Mountains. Reaching the summit is both a physical challenge and a spiritual journey through some of the country’s most breathtaking scenery.
The trail begins in Gropa Erenikut or near Junik and takes approximately 8–10 hours for a round trip. Along the way, you’ll pass glacial lakes, alpine pastures, and wild herbs. The views from the top are unforgettable — on a clear day, you can see deep into Albania and Montenegro.
The trail is unspoiled and lacks commercial infrastructure, so it’s best to go with a guide or someone familiar with the terrain. Modest clothing and appropriate hiking gear are highly recommended. Pack enough food, water, and a prayer mat if you wish to make salah with a mountain view.
